April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
– T.S. Eliot
If April is the cruelest of months, then why are we looking forward to it? If April is indeed cruel why then there are too many flowers surrounding us? If April is indeed cruel why then we smile?
We are fooled. By sunshine, flowers, green, and joy. We are fooled indeed. Spring comes along and we think of joy, we think of love and passion. We feel warmth and comfort. That is spring. It springs all these feelings in us. And it deceives us.
We are fooled. Buy this warmth and love. Only days ago it was the mother’s day. And it was filled with tulips and compassion. Affections fool us indeed. And we look forward to the Resurrection of Christ. Our true savior. Surly he was born in the middle of the cold, yet he dies and resurrects in the middle of spring. He springs out in some of our souls and in the rest he is still dead.
Spring has fooled us into believing there is indeed a glorious heaven waiting for us all.
April fools us all.
